Identification of native species most important in terms of socioeconomic and cultural development, its current uses and potential and characterization of the rural population surrounding the field plots and their relations and perceptions of native forests

The identification of native species more important than socio-economically and culturally, its current uses and potential build search by region, a list of species of native flora of Santa Catarina that are most often used by the population. The list of these species will be obtained through interviews to be conducted with researchers, technicians and users in different regions of the state, as well as the research being conducted with the residents of communities surrounding the field plots of the inventory.

The potential use of species will be obtained in interviews with researchers, technicians and specialists, to be held in addition to the survey conducted in Phase II of the inventory, and especially with the available report of the Project Plans for the Future - MMA on the Southern Region, conducted in 2007.

Survey of residents in communities surrounding the sample plots of field inventory

To characterize the socioeconomic and cultural development of native forest resources of Santa Catarina and to meet the demands of the information specified in the National Forest Inventory - IFN, whose project is under construction by the Ministry of Environment - MMA, will be a survey of owners of forests native farmers and other residents living in nearby communities and in areas surrounding the plots sampled for the field inventory. For the application of the research will be formed four teams of two researchers each, which will act on the field for a period of approximately 12 weeks.

Contents of the questionnaire and information to be collected

This research has the objective to socioeconomic characteristics of communities and people who own and / or use their forest resources, especially the residents of the surrounding sample points, and know the cultural aspects and perceptions of people in relation to forest native. Information will be collected for identification and characterization of the parcels of socioeconomic characteristics of respondents, identification of land use, forests and native species as well as information to assess the relationships and perceptions of respondents regarding the value of existence and use of natural forests and the legal aspects of environmental policy.
